Living Life with No Regrets-My Decision to Enter Network Marketing


Last week I turned 39!  Thirty-nine!  It is so true as you get older time goes by faster and faster.  If you have kids, the time flies by warp speed. There are days when you little one may be throwing things in the toilet, throwing a temper tantrum when you need to get out the door for an appointment, or your teenager is rolling his eyes at you as though you are getting dumber by the minute…..it is at these times you feel they will never grow up.  All of a sudden you will look back and wonder where the time has gone!

Almost four years ago I took a leap of faith and joined network marketing!  This opportunity has allowed me to work from home, earn an income for my family , and share my passion for fitness!  Network marketing…A career I never pictured myself pursuing.  Being a “salesman” and pushing my products on someone was never my dream.  I went to college, pursued my love of sports medicine and health sciences and went out into the real world.  Having kids changed everything.  It gave me a reason to look for something that would help me share my love of fitness and spend more time with my kids, while supporting our family.  My career as an athletic trainer, although I loved it, didn’t have a schedule that gave me the freedom to see my boys’ special “firsts” and other events.

At first I was hesitant to join Network marketing! There are plenty of companies and salesmen that come off as pushy and just plain rude.  There are also many people who start network marketing with the misconception that it is easy money.  They figure they can sign up a few people, who know lots of other people, and “make it big.” They do not “work” at their business, so when they aren’t making any money they quit. Therefore network marketing is not a REAL OPPORTUNITY.   These kind of companies and their representatives give all network marketers a negative stigma, so with little experience with network marketing, I was skeptical.

Taking that leap into network marketing and going “all in” was scary.  People looked at me like I was crazy and questioned the “pyramid scheme” I was getting into.  They rolled their eyes at me, and some still do.  There will always be a social stigma associated with this career.  Luckily, I found a network marketing company that cares about people! It has been such a blessing to me and my family that I have been able to match my love of fitness and helping others (something I did as a certified athletic trainer).  This company has given me the opportunity to support my family  financially and a flexible schedule to be there for all those important times in my boys’ lives.

Once I learned more about this company and the fact that coaches are there to make a difference and change lives, I was all in!  By “all in” I mean I was ready to become a network marketing professional and start my business. Like myself, there are many network marketing professionals who truly care about their clients and customers and have found a way to help them by turning their passion into a business.   I do sell products and services in my business and am not ashamed.  People pay for products and services everyday.  It is only right that professionals get paid for their time and service.  Myself and others in the network marketing profession are driven by our WHY and are PASSIONATE about HELPING others.

I am so thankful that I am able to have a career from the comfort of my own home and work on my own time.  There is no commuting, no time clock to punch, no daycare bills, no missing out on my kid’s activities due to work commitments. I still work hard and enjoy the pleasures of life like coaching my son’s basketball team, reading in my son’s classroom, and helping at his holiday parties.  Life is good! I am living life to the fullest with no regrets!

Working from home may not be for everyone, but for me it has been a life changing decision my husband and I made 3 1/2 years ago.  It was hard at first, and I was surprised what an adjustment it was. I really thought once I started working from home it would be easy, but it was a challenge. I had to be disciplined and make my work time count as I built my business.  Not everyday is easy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  It was the right decision for myself and my family and we don’t regret it.

When I look back on my time at home while my kids are young, I will be happy that I didn’t miss a thing.

My Journey To Become A Work From Home Mom

Many days after having my first baby, I would cry on my way to or home from work.  I was doing what I loved, working as an Athletic Trainer, caring for high school student athletes, but I was missing out on other important things in my life. Many days I would be gone for 12+ hours a day and only see my son for several minutes in the morning when I pulled him out of his crib to take him to daycare and at night to look in on him in his bed as he was already sleeping.  I missed out on a lot of snuggling, rocking, and bedtime stories. I loved my job but missed my baby terribly.

My perspective changed in the fall of 2004.  My son was a few months away from his second birthday and I had one of the scariest experiences of my life.  One weekend I lost control of my body.  The numbness and tingling started in my left foot and gradually worked it’s way up the left side of my body.  I had absolutely no control over my body or the symptoms that were taking over my body. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that effects the nerves of the body.

Athletic Training picture At the time I had a toddler and husband to take care of.  I had responsibilities as an athletic trainer and responsibilities in our family farming operation.  I didn’t have time to slow down and I had to control something.  I made the decision that even though I could not control my Multiple Sclerosis, I could make the best of my health and control my nutrition and exercise habits.  While I had exercised periodically, after my  diagnosis I make the decision to live a healthier lifestyle and take my exercise and nutrition more seriously. I wanted to do everything I could to be there to take care of my family and be able to play with my son.  Not being able to do these things was my biggest fear.

My husband and I became more committed to our P90X, getting in the best shape we had been in since high school.  We followed up our P90X by purchasing Shaun T’s Insanity.  Between my last two pregnancies, we were in great shape and were more conscious of what we were eating.

After the birth of our third son, my husband, discovered he had a gluten intolerance (wheat allergy).  This was what made us decide to try Shakeology, since it was a nutritious meal that was gluten free.  We have learned how to eat and cook gluten free.  Today we eat fresh fruits, vegetables, and , drink our Shakology daily, and avoid all processed foods.

It is amazing how things fall into place. Shortly after we started drinking Shakeology, we learned about the coaching opportunity with Beachbody.  This business opportunity not only gave me an opportunity to work from home, spend more time with my family, and earn an extra income, but it gives me the opportunity to help others.  It is so rewarding to make a difference in the life of others.  It is also great motivation for Aaron and I to continue to strive to be fit and healthy for our boys and for ourselves.

Cancer Fighting Foods

Everyone knows someone who has been touched by the horrible disease of cancer some way or another.  My story of how I have been touched started last summer, July 2013.  The year had started out great.  In February, my family and I enjoyed a trip to Walt Disney World in celebration of my mom’s upcoming 60th birthday and my family and extended family were healthy and happy.  July 2013, all our lives changed.  Just one month after my mom’s birthday, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.   This was the first time I was this close to the disease and it felt like I had been punched in the stomach when I got the news.  I had to stay postitive and keep reassuring my mom and myself that she was going to beat this and life would go on.

It all happened so fast, first mom found the small lump, then the biopsy, and less then a week later she underwent surgery to remove the aggressive cancer tumor and some lymph nodes. The surgeon performed the lumpectomy and removed 10 lymph node, two which were cancerous.   The report came back as Stage 3 Triple (-) breast cancer.  Although my mom’s tumor was small, it was aggressive.  Mom went through four tough chemotherapy treatments followed by 33 radiation sessions.  Thank God she is in remission and feeling and looking great today!  We are truly blessed!

My mom’s experience and hearing of many others suffering from many different types of cancers inspired me to write this blog.  Some research has shown that certain foods may have cancer fighting properties.  These foods are plant based and contain phytonutrients which have been shown to slow down the growth of new malignant (cancer) cells by keeping new blood vessels that supply these cells from growing.

BROCCOLI-Broccoli contains sulforaphane which is a potent compounds that boosts the bodies protective enzymes and flushes out cancer-causing chemicals. Sulforaphane also targets cancer stem cells that aid in tumor growth.  Other cruciferous vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, and kale are good choices also. Include more broccoli and other vegetable in your diet.  Kale is a great choice for a salad and adding lots of fresh vegetables is healthy and delicious.

BERRIES-Phytonutrients, especially those found in black raspberries, slow the growth of new malignant cells and keep new blood vessels form forming that feed the cancer cells. I personally like to have berries fresh, in my yogurt, or in my oatmeal.  Berries make a nice sweet treat and can be used as dessert.  My kids love them and eat them when they are available in the fridge.

TOMATOES-They contain lycopene which has been shown to stop endometrial cancer cells’ growth.  They are best cooked as the heating process increases the lycopene that can be absorbed by the body.  Spaghetti sauce is an excellent way to get your family, especially kids, to eat tomatoes.

WALNUTS-These contain phytosterols, which are cholesterol like molecules found in plants that block estrogen receptors in brain cancer cells, possible slowing the cell’s growth.  One ounce a day is recommended.  These are delicious in oatmeal or in a homemade trail mix.

GARLIC-This is a phytochemical that halts the formation or nitrosamines which are carcinogens formed in the stomach when you consume nitrates.  Nitrates are common in food preservatives.  This is another reason to stay away from processed foods and eat fresh fruits and vegetables.  Start with simple things you can do with your family like crushing fresh garlic into your spaghetti sauce or adding garlic to other recipes.  Many homemade salad dressings are delicious with crushed garlic.

BEANS/BLACK/NAVY-These have a high fatty acid butyrate which can have protective effects against cancer growth, when consumed in high concentration.  Try adding 1/2  cup of legumes (canned or dry) to your diet several times a week.  They are also a great source of protein.  I like to add beans to my tacos or put them into a taco soup or chili.

Obesity increases a person’s risk for cancer.  If you follow the rule of eating like people have since the beginning of time, eating unprocessed, fresh food simply prepared, it will help you lose weight, feel better and live a healthier life.
